No, we are not giving up on our paper version. We will continue to print our popular paper each month. But the In Port Board has been a little remiss on setting up a web site to get the word out and make it easier for you to contact us. You can now email us, send us comments and complaints, and submit articles through the web site.

As we set up the web site, we have decided to offer to you an electronic version of the In Port. Why? Because while many of us like to have a “real” paper to hold as we catch up on the local news, we must face the fact that more and more people like to read their news on line over the Internet. And we must admit that there are some benefits to reading the paper on-line.

·  Photographs will be in color. Most photographs submitted to us are in color and we must turn them to black and white for the paper version. It is simply too expensive to print in color. But an electronic version can have as many colors as we want.

·  Photographs will be sharper. The quality of the photograph can lose its sharpness as it goes through the paper printing process. The sharpness of the photos depends on the paper, the ink, how it was converted from color and the contrast. These are not issues on line.

·  Faster delivery. Especially for you folks down south. The on line In Port will be available as soon as we hit the send button and ship the paper to the printer. This can save you two weeks of waiting while we go through the printing, processing, and mailing.

·  Back issues will be available. The site will have several years of back issues and perhaps more as we work through this process. Issues over the last year will be available in color, and older issues will be in black and white.

A subscription to the online version will still cost you the same as the paper version, since we need to pay for the web site and additional production costs. The web site will have a login that will let you access the paper. The issues will be available as pdf files that you can download, print or read. Check it all out at
